A railway servant may be placed under suspension in three situations — where a disciplinary proceeding against him is contemplated or pending; where the competent authority is of the opinion that he has engaged in activities prejudicial to the security of the State; or where a criminal case against him is under investigation, inquiry or trial.रेल सेवक को तीन स्थितियों में निलंबित किया जा सकता है — जब उसके विरुद्ध अनुशासनात्मक कार्यवाही विचाराधीन या लंबित हो; जब सक्षम प्राधिकारी की राय हो कि वह राज्य की सुरक्षा के प्रतिकूल गतिविधियों में लगा है; या जब उसके विरुद्ध कोई आपराधिक मामला अन्वेषण, जाँच या विचारण में हो।

DEEMED suspension is important. A railway servant is deemed to have been suspended from the date of his detention if he is kept in custody, on a criminal charge or otherwise, for a period exceeding FORTY-EIGHT HOURS.मानित निलंबन महत्वपूर्ण है। यदि किसी रेल सेवक को आपराधिक आरोप में या अन्यथा अड़तालीस घंटे से अधिक हिरासत में रखा जाए, तो उसे हिरासत की तिथि से निलंबित माना जाता है।

He is also deemed suspended from the date of conviction if, on conviction, he is sentenced to imprisonment exceeding forty-eight hours and is not immediately dismissed, removed or compulsorily retired.यदि दोषसिद्धि पर उसे अड़तालीस घंटे से अधिक के कारावास की सजा हो और उसे तुरंत बर्खास्त, सेवा से हटाया या अनिवार्य सेवानिवृत्त न किया जाए, तो वह दोषसिद्धि की तिथि से निलंबित माना जाता है।

The forty-eight hours is counted from the start of imprisonment after conviction, and intermittent periods of imprisonment are added together for this purpose.अड़तालीस घंटे की गणना दोषसिद्धि के बाद कारावास आरंभ होने से की जाती है, और इस प्रयोजन के लिए रुक-रुक कर हुई कारावास अवधियाँ जोड़ी जाती हैं।

In exceptional circumstances an authority may suspend a subordinate railway servant even if not the normally competent authority — but must at once report the circumstances to the competent authority and obtain his approval.असाधारण परिस्थितियों में कोई प्राधिकारी किसी अधीनस्थ रेल सेवक को निलंबित कर सकता है, भले ही वह सामान्यतः सक्षम प्राधिकारी न हो — किंतु उसे तुरंत परिस्थितियों की सूचना सक्षम प्राधिकारी को देकर उनका अनुमोदन प्राप्त करना होगा।
