What the rules call pension admissibility is made of two elements.

• The SERVICE GRATUITY
• The PENSION itself

Which of the two you get turns on one figure, your qualifying service. So settle the years first. The name of the payment follows from them.नियम जिसे पेंशन की देयता कहते हैं, वह दो तत्वों से बनी है।

• सेवा उपदान
• स्वयं पेंशन

इन दोनों में से आपको क्या मिलेगा, यह एक ही आँकड़े पर टिकता है, आपकी अर्हक सेवा पर। इसलिए पहले वर्ष तय कीजिए। भुगतान का नाम उन्हीं से निकलता है।

SERVICE GRATUITY BELOW TEN YEARSदस वर्ष से कम पर सेवा उपदान

Where your qualifying service is LESS THAN TEN YEARS, you are paid a service gratuity instead of a pension. It is calculated at a UNIFORM RATE of HALF A MONTH'S EMOLUMENTS for every completed six-monthly period of service. The uniform rate replaced the rates in the table below the relevant provisions of MRPR, 1950. The departmental question bank draws the line the same way. Service gratuity is for qualifying service less than ten years and more than five.जहाँ आपकी अर्हक सेवा दस वर्ष से कम हो, वहाँ आपको पेंशन के बदले सेवा उपदान मिलता है। यह सेवा की हर पूरी छमाही अवधि के लिए आधे माह की परिलब्धियों की एकसमान दर से निकाला जाता है। इस एकसमान दर ने एमआरपीआर, 1950 के संबंधित उपबंधों के नीचे दी तालिका की दरों की जगह ली। विभागीय प्रश्न बैंक भी रेखा इसी तरह खींचता है। सेवा उपदान दस वर्ष से कम और पाँच वर्ष से अधिक अर्हक सेवा पर है।

IT IS ONE PAYMENT, AND NOTHING FOLLOWS ITयह एक ही भुगतान है, और इसके बाद कुछ नहीं

Service gratuity is a ONE-TIME payment.

• There is NO monthly pension after it
• There is NO family pension out of it when the pensioner dies

So the man who leaves at nine years takes a single sum and is done with the Railway. Ten years of qualifying service is the line that decides whether your family is ever paid anything after you.सेवा उपदान एक बार का भुगतान है।

• इसके बाद कोई मासिक पेंशन नहीं होती
• पेंशनभोगी की मृत्यु पर इसमें से कोई परिवार पेंशन नहीं निकलती

अर्थात् नौ वर्ष पर जाने वाला व्यक्ति एक मुश्त रकम लेकर रेलवे से अलग हो जाता है। दस वर्ष की अर्हक सेवा ही वह रेखा है जो तय करती है कि आपके बाद आपके परिवार को कभी कुछ मिलेगा या नहीं।

SERVICE GRATUITY IS NOT RETIREMENT GRATUITYसेवा उपदान और सेवानिवृत्ति उपदान एक नहीं

The two gratuities sound alike and answer different questions.

• SERVICE GRATUITY takes the place of a pension below ten years
• RETIREMENT GRATUITY is paid IN ADDITION to pension, and needs five years of qualifying service

So below five years neither gratuity is admissible to you. What you take away then is your provident fund balance and the encashment of your leave.दोनों उपदान सुनने में एक जैसे हैं और अलग-अलग प्रश्नों का उत्तर देते हैं।

• सेवा उपदान दस वर्ष से कम पर पेंशन की जगह लेता है
• सेवानिवृत्ति उपदान पेंशन के ऊपर दिया जाता है, और उसके लिए पाँच वर्ष की अर्हक सेवा चाहिए

अर्थात् पाँच वर्ष से कम पर आपको कोई भी उपदान देय नहीं। तब आप अपनी भविष्य निधि का शेष और अवकाश का नकदीकरण ही ले जाते हैं।

WORK ONE EXAMPLE AND THE RULE STAYS WITH YOUएक उदाहरण कर लीजिए, नियम साथ रहेगा

Take eight years of qualifying service.

• Eight years is SIXTEEN completed six-monthly periods
• Sixteen times half a month's emoluments is EIGHT MONTHS' emoluments

For running staff the emoluments here carry the added pay element of 55 per cent of basic pay. So a Loco Pilot's service gratuity is worked out on more than his basic pay alone.आठ वर्ष की अर्हक सेवा लीजिए।

• आठ वर्ष सोलह पूरी छमाही अवधियाँ हैं
• सोलह गुणा आधे माह की परिलब्धियाँ, अर्थात् आठ माह की परिलब्धियाँ

रनिंग स्टाफ के लिए यहाँ की परिलब्धियों में मूल वेतन के 55 प्रतिशत का अतिरिक्त वेतन तत्व जुड़ा होता है। अर्थात् लोको पायलट का सेवा उपदान केवल उसके मूल वेतन से अधिक पर निकलता है।
