First appointments to a Group 'A' post in railway service are made by THE PRESIDENT, on the recommendation of the UPSC. All SUBSTANTIVE PROMOTIONS to Railway Services Group 'A' are also made by THE PRESIDENT. So both the door into Group A and the ladder inside it run through the same authority. So if a question puts you in Group A, look for the President in the options.रेल सेवा के समूह 'क' पद पर पहली नियुक्तियाँ राष्ट्रपति करते हैं, संघ लोक सेवा आयोग की सिफारिश पर। रेल सेवा समूह 'क' की सभी स्थानापन्न पदोन्नतियाँ भी राष्ट्रपति ही करते हैं। अर्थात् समूह क का दरवाजा और उसके भीतर की सीढ़ी, दोनों एक ही प्राधिकारी से होकर जाते हैं। इसलिए प्रश्न आपको समूह क में रखे, तो विकल्पों में राष्ट्रपति खोजिए।

For the groups below, the appointing authority is fixed by the level of the officer.

• GROUP D: a JUNIOR SCALE officer
• GROUP C at LEVEL 6: a JAG officer

The General Managers of the Indian Railways have powers to create gazetted posts in Group 'A' and Group 'B'. So the authority that appoints you rises with the post you are appointed to.नीचे के समूहों के लिए नियुक्ति प्राधिकारी अधिकारी के स्तर से तय होता है।

• समूह घ: कनिष्ठ श्रेणी का अधिकारी
• स्तर 6 का समूह ग: जेएजी अधिकारी

भारतीय रेल के महाप्रबंधकों को समूह 'क' और समूह 'ख' में राजपत्रित पद सृजित करने की शक्तियाँ हैं। अर्थात् जो प्राधिकारी आपको नियुक्त करता है, वह उस पद के साथ ऊपर उठता है जिस पर नियुक्ति हो रही है।

HOW OFTEN A GROUP B SELECTION IS HELDसमूह ख का चयन कितनी बार होता है

The frequency of selection for a Group 'B' post is 2 YEARS AT MAXIMUM. So the selection cannot be put off indefinitely, and your chance comes round at least once in two years.समूह 'ख' पद के लिए चयन की आवृत्ति अधिकतम 2 वर्ष है। अर्थात् चयन अनिश्चित काल तक टाला नहीं जा सकता, और आपका अवसर कम से कम दो वर्ष में एक बार आता है।
