HOURS OF EMPLOYMENT means the period during employment consisting of the period of action, the period of inaction, and the period of handing over and taking over of charge. PERIOD OF INTERVAL is the period between spells of duty during which the employee is free to LEAVE the place of duty.अंतराल अवधि वह अवधि है जो ड्यूटी की पालियों के बीच होती है और जिसमें कर्मचारी ड्यूटी स्थल छोड़ने के लिए स्वतंत्र होता है।

FULL NIGHT means the period between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM, and NIGHT DUTY means duty performed between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM. The same eight hours define both.पूर्ण रात्रि का अर्थ है रात्रि 10:00 बजे से प्रातः 6:00 बजे तक की अवधि, और रात्रि ड्यूटी का अर्थ है रात्रि 10:00 बजे से प्रातः 6:00 बजे के बीच की गई ड्यूटी। यही आठ घंटे दोनों को परिभाषित करते हैं।

A ROSTER is a document showing the hours a railway servant is expected to be on duty each day, the daily and weekly rest, and the breaks between spells of duty in a day.रोस्टर वह दस्तावेज है जो दर्शाता है कि रेल सेवक से प्रतिदिन कितने घंटे ड्यूटी पर रहने की अपेक्षा है, दैनिक एवं साप्ताहिक विश्राम, तथा एक दिन में ड्यूटी की पालियों के बीच के अवकाश।

LONG ON means a period of duty over 8 HOURS in an Intensive roster, over 10 HOURS in a Continuous roster, and over 12 HOURS in an Essentially Intermittent roster. Note the ladder — 8, 10, 12.लॉन्ग ऑन का अर्थ है सघन रोस्टर में 8 घंटे से अधिक, निरंतर रोस्टर में 10 घंटे से अधिक, तथा अनिवार्यतः आंतरायिक रोस्टर में 12 घंटे से अधिक की ड्यूटी अवधि। क्रम ध्यान दें — 8, 10, 12।

SHORT OFF means a period of rest that is less than 12 hours for an Intensive worker in a roster of 6-hour duty, less than 14 hours in a mixed roster of six and eight hour duties, less than 10 hours for a Continuous worker, and less than 8 hours for an Essentially Intermittent worker.शॉर्ट ऑफ का अर्थ है ऐसी विश्राम अवधि जो 6 घंटे की ड्यूटी वाले रोस्टर में सघन कर्मचारी हेतु 12 घंटे से कम, छह और आठ घंटे की मिश्रित रोस्टर में 14 घंटे से कम, निरंतर कर्मचारी हेतु 10 घंटे से कम, तथा अनिवार्यतः आंतरायिक कर्मचारी हेतु 8 घंटे से कम हो।

SUSTAINED ATTENTION means mental effort where the railway servant must display a high level of concentration or physical activity. A Pointsman waiting for a train after setting the points, or a Station Master from the time of line clear until the train arrives, is giving sustained attention.सतत ध्यान का अर्थ है वह मानसिक प्रयास जिसमें रेल सेवक को उच्च स्तर की एकाग्रता या शारीरिक सक्रियता दिखानी पड़े। पॉइंट्समैन जो पॉइंट सेट करने के बाद गाड़ी की प्रतीक्षा करता है, अथवा स्टेशन मास्टर जो लाइन क्लियर से गाड़ी आने तक, सतत ध्यान दे रहा होता है।

SPLIT DUTY means duty performed in two or more spells with intervening breaks of half an hour or more, made necessary by the exigencies of work, where the employee is free to leave the place of duty. Intervals for rest and meals are NOT breaks for the purpose of split duty.विभाजित ड्यूटी का अर्थ है कार्य की अनिवार्यता के कारण दो या अधिक पालियों में की गई ड्यूटी, जिनके बीच आधे घंटे या अधिक के अवकाश हों और जिनमें कर्मचारी ड्यूटी स्थल छोड़ने को स्वतंत्र हो। विश्राम और भोजन के अंतराल विभाजित ड्यूटी हेतु अवकाश नहीं माने जाते।
