• IRIME SLIDESThe period during employment made up of:
  • The period of action
  • The period of inaction
  • The period of handing over and taking over of charge
• COMBINED BOOKThe time during which you are rostered for duty. It includes periods of inaction. It does not include intervals, or the time you take going to and coming from your residence.

PERIOD OF INACTIONनिष्क्रियता की अवधि

PERIOD OF INTERVALअंतराल अवधि

The period between spells of duty during which you are free to leave the place of duty. The Combined Book calls it INTERVAL or SPLIT SHIFT. It is the period between two or more spells of duty when you may leave your post.ड्यूटी की पालियों के बीच की वह अवधि जिसमें आप ड्यूटी स्थल छोड़ने के लिए स्वतंत्र हैं। कंबाइंड बुक इसे अंतराल या विभाजित पाली कहती है। यह ड्यूटी की दो या अधिक पालियों के बीच की वह अवधि है जिसमें आप अपना पद छोड़ सकते हैं।

SPLIT DUTYविभाजित ड्यूटी

Duty done in two or more spells, with breaks in between.

• Each break is HALF AN HOUR OR MORE
• The breaks are needed by the exigencies of work
• During a break you are free to leave the place of duty

Intervals for rest and meals are NOT breaks for the purpose of split duty.दो या अधिक पालियों में की गई ड्यूटी, जिनके बीच अवकाश हों।

NIGHT DUTYरात्रि ड्यूटी

• Combined Book: any part of your rostered hours of duty that falls between 10 PM and 6 AM

The window is the same eight hours as a full night.

A document that shows the hours you are expected to be on duty every day. The IRIME slides say it also shows:

• Your daily and weekly rest
• The breaks between spells of duty in a day
• Other particulars

The Combined Book calls it the DUTY ROSTER: a document showing the hours of employment and the period of rest.वह दस्तावेज जो दिखाता है कि आपसे हर दिन कितने घंटे ड्यूटी पर रहने की अपेक्षा है। आईआरआईएमई स्लाइड के अनुसार इसमें यह भी होता है:

A period of duty over:

• 8 HOURS for an Intensive worker
• 10 HOURS for a Continuous worker
• 12 HOURS for an Essentially Intermittent worker

Both sources agree. Remember the ladder 8, 10, 12 in the order Intensive, Continuous, EI.ड्यूटी की ऐसी अवधि जो इससे अधिक हो:

SHORT OFFशॉर्ट ऑफ

A period of rest that is less than:

• 12 HOURS for an Intensive worker in a roster of 6-hour duty
• 14 HOURS for an Intensive worker in a mixed roster of 6-hour and 8-hour duty
• 10 HOURS for a Continuous worker
• 8 HOURS for an Essentially Intermittent worker

The Combined Book cites Board's letter No. E(Adj)48(HER)6 dated 09.04.51. Long On is duty over a limit. Short Off is rest under a limit, so if you rest less than this, you have had a Short Off.विश्राम की ऐसी अवधि जो इससे कम हो:

SUSTAINED ATTENTIONसतत ध्यान

Mental effort, when you are called upon to show a high level of concentration and/or physical activity. The Combined Book says simply that the term means mental effort.

• A Pointsman waiting for a train after setting the points is giving sustained attention
• An SM or ASM gives it from the time of line clear till the train arrives

मानसिक प्रयास, जब आपसे उच्च स्तर की एकाग्रता और/या शारीरिक गतिविधि की अपेक्षा हो। कंबाइंड बुक बस इतना कहती है कि इस शब्द का अर्थ मानसिक प्रयास है।

• पॉइंट सेट करने के बाद गाड़ी की प्रतीक्षा करता पॉइंट्समैन सतत ध्यान दे रहा होता है

PREPARATORY AND COMPLEMENTARY WORKप्रारंभिक और पूरक कार्य

This is P&C work. It includes taking over and handing over charge. It is work done outside the limits laid down for the general working of a shift. It can exist even for single-shift workers, where there may be no handing over or taking over.

• P&C of less than 15 MINUTES a day need not be shown in your roster
• P&C of 45 MINUTES TO ONE HOUR a day counts as ONE HOUR of duty
