Nepali is the State language of Sikkim. The departmental question banks call it the FOREIGN LANGUAGE of the Eighth Schedule, and Nepali is the answer to write. The label is theirs, not the Constitution’s: Urdu and Bengali are in the Schedule too, and are the national languages of Pakistan and Bangladesh.नेपाली सिक्किम की राज्य भाषा है। विभागीय प्रश्न बैंक इसे आठवीं अनुसूची की "विदेशी भाषा" कहते हैं, और उत्तर में नेपाली ही लिखना है। यह नाम उन्हीं का है, संविधान का नहीं — उर्दू और बांग्ला भी अनुसूची में हैं, और वे पाकिस्तान तथा बांग्लादेश की राष्ट्रभाषाएँ हैं।

The Act was passed so that English could continue alongside Hindi even after 1965.
