CAG stands for Comptroller and Auditor General. Audit of Railway accounts is done by officials of the CAG.सीएजी का अर्थ है नियंत्रक एवं महालेखापरीक्षक। रेलवे खातों की लेखा परीक्षा सीएजी के अधिकारियों द्वारा की जाती है।

An inspection report comes in TWO PARTS. Part I carries the serious irregularities that may go forward to the Audit Report; Part II carries the minor ones to be settled locally.निरीक्षण प्रतिवेदन दो भागों में आता है। भाग 1 में वे गंभीर अनियमितताएँ होती हैं जो लेखा परीक्षा प्रतिवेदन तक जा सकती हैं; भाग 2 में स्थानीय स्तर पर निपटाई जाने वाली छोटी अनियमितताएँ।

The escalation runs in a fixed order — an objection that is not settled becomes a DRAFT PARA, and a draft para that is not answered convincingly becomes a PARA in the Audit Report laid before Parliament.वृद्धि एक निश्चित क्रम में चलती है — जो आपत्ति निपटती नहीं वह ड्राफ्ट पैरा बनती है, और जिस ड्राफ्ट पैरा का संतोषजनक उत्तर नहीं मिलता वह संसद के समक्ष रखे लेखा परीक्षा प्रतिवेदन का पैरा बन जाता है।

Audit Inspection Report Part-II is closed by Accounts officers.लेखा परीक्षा निरीक्षण रिपोर्ट भाग-II लेखा अधिकारियों द्वारा बंद की जाती है।

That is why replies are chased so hard. Once a matter reaches the Audit Report it goes to the Public Accounts Committee, and a question that could have been closed by a letter becomes a question answered before a committee of Parliament.इसीलिए उत्तरों के लिए इतना दबाव रहता है। मामला एक बार लेखा परीक्षा प्रतिवेदन तक पहुँच जाए तो लोक लेखा समिति के पास जाता है, और जो प्रश्न एक पत्र से बंद हो सकता था वह संसदीय समिति के समक्ष उत्तर देने योग्य प्रश्न बन जाता है।

Store inspections are normally done by the Stock Verifier/ISA. The objection dealing with shortage or excess of stock is drawn up by the Stock Verifier.स्टोर निरीक्षण सामान्यतः स्टॉक सत्यापनकर्ता/आईएसए द्वारा किया जाता है। स्टॉक की कमी या अधिकता से संबंधित आपत्ति स्टॉक सत्यापनकर्ता द्वारा तैयार की जाती है।

Audit has a RIGHT OF ACCESS to all books, papers and records. The right flows from the Constitution and cannot be refused by the department being audited.लेखा परीक्षा को सभी बहियों, कागजातों और अभिलेखों तक पहुँच का अधिकार है। यह अधिकार संविधान से आता है और जिस विभाग की लेखा परीक्षा हो रही है वह इसे अस्वीकार नहीं कर सकता।

Periodic returns submitted to the Accounts office include the Invoice List with copies of invoices.लेखा कार्यालय को समय-समय पर प्रस्तुत की जाने वाली रिटर्न में चालान की प्रतियों सहित चालान सूची शामिल है।
