• A CLASS is an abstract data type that supports INHERITANCE: a rocking chair derives from chair, which derives from furniture
• An OBJECT is an instance of a class: your grandmother's rocking chair; a METHOD is a function belonging to a class
• POLYMORPHISM lets one call behave differently according to the object's class

So a class is the blueprint, and an object is one thing built from it.

• SOAP sends XML messages, described by WSDL; REST uses HTTP methods such as GET, POST, PUT and DELETE on resources

You have already met Active Directory, which is Microsoft's directory service. So SOAP is message-based XML, and REST is resource-based HTTP.
